Sweet-Gum Bear

PARENTS PLEASE HANDLE THE SWEET-GUMS!  THEY ARE PRICKLY, AND CAN HURT!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
3 -  (3" x 4" x 8") Blocks of Oasis (florist foam)
1/4" dowels
Velverette glue
sweet-gum balls (picture below) (not the candy)
felt (scrap)
25" - (2 1/2" - wide) red ribbon
florist wire

Place 1 block on end for bear body. Cut another block in half for head (should be a square), and , with a paring knife, round off corners. To attach head to body, insert dowels and glue.
For arms and legs, cut third block into 2" x 3" x 4" Quarters. Shorten arms 1". Shape, cut right angled notches, and attach to corners of block as above.
From the remains half block, cut 2 ears(
3/4" x 3" x 4"). Cut 3 pieces to round sides and back of head (1" x 1" x 3") Shape all parts with knife to give dowels and glue as above.
To round sides if body, cut pieces 1 1/2" x 3" x 4" . The stomach is 2"x 3 1/2" x 4". Round pieces and attach as for head and limbs. Allow glue to dry 24 hours.
Working for bottom up, cover areas of the bear with glue and push sweet-gum balls into the Oasis. Allow to dry another 24 hours.
Cut felt to fit bottom of bear and glue. Tie red ribbon in a bow and attach to neck with florist wire.
